Essex train stations !

Been to essex today, and despite what they say it was very nice too !!

But something puzzled me, maybe its being a country yokel , but noticed on several of the stations (Laindon being one ) that they have these huuuge mirrors in the middle of the platform ! Now whilst theres a huge tempatation to make a joke here about essex girls I will resist !! But please put me out of my misery someone and tell me what they are there for !!
