Children and seatbelts again

How often do parents need to be told, to be reminded that carrying a child in a car without a seatbelt is dangerous? When the baby is born, parents get wads of leaflets, in the 'red book' all babies are given, there are frequent reminders about car safety.

There are TV adverts, radio adverts, adverts in the newspapers, magazines, parenting websites. In short there is no excuse whatsoever for any parent to knowingly, cheerfully transport their child in a car, unrestrained..... is there ?

Seems though, that some will only get the message when the worst has already happened. Tonights local paper reports a case where a car crashed on the M4 after a tyre blew out. An 18 month old toddler, being carried on mums lap, was thrown from the car. The car was travelling at 80mph... the toddler died.

Now part of me wants to sympathise with the parents, they made an awful mistake and paid the ultimate price and have suffered enough. But then the other part of me is screaming FFS how could you be so damned stupid. I am trying not to judger them. End of the day they will have to live with their decision for the rest of their lives.

Either way, please guys don't do it. Don't take that child out of their carseat, if they are crying then put up with it until you can pull over/off the road. If your child is being sick, then use the hard shoulder and get them out of the car. If the police stop and give you earache.. well sodding hell thats got to be better than losing your child.
